Early?: MCA goes all-out on Copact Discs, releaseing Elton's entire 1970 - 1980 catalog, but only releaseing Blue Moves on 1 disc, cutting Cage The Songbird, Shoulder Holster, The Wide-Eyed And Laughing, and Where's The Shoorah? To compensate for how expensive Compact Discs were, MCA also reissued the albums on L.P. and Cassette along with reissues of 7" singles. Several benign toumors were found on his vocal chords caused by smoking marijuana. They are removed, and Elton beats the odds and his voice is better than ever. 1987 Troughout: British tabloid The Sun prints false stories about Elton. Elton fights back in court and wins. He got £1,000,000 (which he gave to charity) and and apology from The Sun in their papers with the same font and size as the flase stories. Reissues all of Elton's Geffen catalog (including Elton John's Greatest Hits Volume III 1979 - 1987) on MCA unaltered exept for Leather Jackets, added extended versions of Heartache All Over The World and Angeline. Then quickly rips EJGHIII from production and replaces it with GH 1976 - 1986 on 10 November. During all this, PolyGram accquires DJM and buys MCA out of Elton's 1970 - 1977 catalog (exept Blue Moves) and reissues them on their Polydor label on 20 October, adding Candle In The Wind to GH and reissuing EJGHVII (U.K. version), and releasing a HUGE backlog of double A-side singles on the Collectables label, using standard black vinyl and special green and red vinyl. Only a few were kept "as was" like Step Into Christmas / Ho! Ho! Ho! (Who'd Be A turkey At Christmas?).
